Automotive DDR High & Low Temperature Signal Validation


As ADAS, autonomous driving, and AI edge computing continue to evolve, automotive SoMs (System on Modules) place increasingly stringent requirements on the reliability of LPDDR5 high-speed memory interfaces. Beyond functional operation, designers must ensure that high-speed signals maintain stable signal quality and timing margins across different operating temperatures.


Due to the fine-pitch BGA package and multi-gigabit operating speeds of LPDDR5, direct probing of high-speed signals presents significant measurement challenges. To address this, iPasslabs utilizes an LPDDR5 Interposer together with high-bandwidth oscilloscopes and differential probes to access CK, WCK, DQ, DQS, CA, and CS signals for high-speed waveform acquisition. The captured waveforms are then analyzed to evaluate Signal Integrity (SI) performance and assess the impact of temperature variation on high-speed memory interfaces.



Temperature changes can significantly influence semiconductor characteristics, package behavior, PCB material properties, and signal transmission paths, resulting in timing drift, increased jitter, higher signal attenuation, and reduced eye diagram margins. Consequently, an LPDDR5 interface that performs well at room temperature may not exhibit the same electrical performance under high- or low-temperature operating conditions.
